SplitTake

SplitTake is a speedrun timer for macOS, built on livesplit-core. I’m designing it specifically for Mac users who do speedruns.

Engine

  • Powered by livesplit-core, the same timing engine as LiveSplit One, for accurate timing, split management, and comparisons
  • Import splits and layouts from LiveSplit and LiveSplit One, so you don’t need to start from scratch

Design

  • Native macOS windows, menus, and settings, with standard features like a recent files list and undo/redo
  • A timer window with no title bar, shadow, or rounded corners, for clean capture in streaming software like OBS
  • Keep the timer above other windows with Float Splits on Top
  • Hold Command while resizing the timer window to snap it to whole segment rows

Controls

  • Customizable global hotkeys for start/split, reset, previous split, skip split, and pause/resume, even when another app has focus
  • Easily access important functions from the menu bar or context menus
  • Shortcuts actions for Split or Start, Pause or Resume, Undo Split, Skip Split, and Reset
  • Connect to a WebSocket server for autosplitting (requires separate autosplitter software)

Splits editor

  • Insert, reorder, and delete segments, and edit names, times, and icons directly
  • Organize segments into groups of subsplits, each with its own name and optional icon
  • Search Speedrun.com by game name, and fill in category, platform, and region
  • Show the world record for a game and category, and download cover art, from Speedrun.com
  • Add custom comparisons, or import one from another splits file

Layout editor

  • Store layouts in the Layout Library for any splits to use; changes to a layout apply to all splits that use it
  • Make a new layout from scratch, or base one on the current layout
  • Customize fonts, colors, gradients, text shadow, text outline, components, icons, and more
  • Apply color themes or make your own palettes
  • Add background images with crop, blur, brightness, hue, and saturation controls

Files and formats

  • Import .lss splits, including attempt history, segment times, and subsplits
  • Import .lsl and .ls1l layouts into the Layout Library, then adjust them in the Layout Editor
  • Export splits and layouts as .lss and .lsl files
  • Launch with a list of recent splits, or automatically reopen the most recently used splits

Accessibility

  • Support for systemwide Accessibility features like Differentiate Without Color, Increase Contrast, and Reduce Transparency
  • Colorblind-Friendly and High Contrast color themes, designed for deutan, protan, and tritan color vision
  • VoiceOver support
