SplitTake Privacy Policy

This policy covers SplitTake, a speedrun timer for macOS, developed by Sotsworks LLC (“Sotsworks”). The Sotsworks website has its own privacy policy.

SplitTake does not collect any data. Sotsworks operates no servers. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your splits, layouts, and settings stay on your computer.

Locally stored information

SplitTake saves the following on your computer, and nowhere else:

  • Your splits and run history
  • Your layouts
  • Your settings and preferences
  • A list of recently opened files, including where they are stored
  • Automatic recovery snapshots, so that an in-progress run is not lost if the app quits unexpectedly

This information never leaves your computer. It is not visible to Sotsworks and cannot be retrieved by it. Removing these files from your computer removes the information.

Third-party websites

SplitTake can look up information from Speedrun.com, a public third-party website, in order to help you find a game and category for splits, to show a world record, and to display a game’s cover art.

When it connects, the request travels directly from your computer to Speedrun.com. It contains only what is needed to answer the query: the text you type when searching for a game, or the identifiers of a game and category. As with any request to any website, Speedrun.com can see the IP address the request came from.

These requests include no account information, no cookies, and no identifiers. SplitTake stores no cookies for Speedrun.com and doesn’t sign into anything. None of the data is sent to Sotsworks. What Speedrun.com does with the requests it receives is governed by its own privacy policy.

Crash and usage reports

macOS can share crash and usage reports with app developers, but only if the appropriate setting is enabled, under Analytics & Improvements in System Settings. If it is enabled, Apple may provide Sotsworks with reports about SplitTake. These come from Apple, are not linked to you, and can be turned off at any time. SplitTake itself sends nothing.

What SplitTake does not do

  • SplitTake does not collect, store, or transmit your personal information
  • SplitTake does not use analytics or telemetry
  • SplitTake does not show advertising, and does not track you across apps or websites
  • Sotsworks does not sell or share your information

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address and the date above will be updated.
